Youths Lured to Cambodia With Fake Computer Jobs, Forced Into Organized Cybercrime Networks

Several young job seekers in India have reportedly been trafficked to Cambodia under the promise of lucrative computer and IT-related employment, only to discover they were being coerced into participating in large-scale cybercrime operations. Victims were allegedly forced to engage in online scams, including investment fraud, romance scams, and social engineering schemes targeting international victims.

Authorities say the recruiters used social media platforms and fake recruitment agencies to advertise high-paying technology jobs abroad. Upon arrival, victims had their passports confiscated and were subjected to intimidation, restricted movement, and threats, effectively trapping them within criminal networks.

Law enforcement agencies are now investigating the cross-border trafficking syndicates behind the scheme, while urging job seekers to verify overseas employment offers through official government and diplomatic channels before traveling.
