Nine-time French football champions Olympique de Marseille have confirmed they were the target of a cyberattack, following claims by a threat actor that the club’s servers were breached.
In a statement issued, the club acknowledged the security incident after reports by BleepingComputer revealed that a hacker had posted a sample of allegedly stolen data on an underground forum.
According to the threat actor, the compromised database contains information relating to approximately 400,000 individuals. The exposed data reportedly includes names, home addresses, email addresses, mobile phone numbers, and order information linked to club activities.
However, Olympique de Marseille has reassured supporters that banking details and account passwords were not compromised in the breach.
The club has urged fans to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures, including using strong and unique passwords, enabling additional security protections where available, and being cautious of phishing emails or suspicious messages that may attempt to exploit the incident.
Cybersecurity experts warn that even when financial information is not accessed, stolen personal data can still be used in targeted phishing campaigns, identity fraud, and other forms of social engineering.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further updates are expected as authorities and cybersecurity teams assess the full scope of the breach.
