Kenya has recorded more than three billion cyberattack attempts between March and May 2026, according to the country’s National Computer and Cybercrime Coordination Committee (NC4).
The report revealed that cybercriminals targeted both government institutions and private businesses, exploiting security weaknesses in computer systems and online platforms. The attacks included phishing attempts, malware infections, ransomware incidents, and attempts to gain unauthorized access to sensitive data.
Kenyan authorities warned that the growing number of attacks highlights the increasing cybersecurity threats facing African countries as more services and businesses move online.
Cybersecurity experts say cybercriminals are becoming more sophisticated by using artificial intelligence, social engineering tactics, and automated tools to launch large-scale attacks.
The latest figures serve as a wake-up call for organizations across Africa to strengthen their cybersecurity defenses, regularly update their systems, and train employees on how to identify online threats.
