Two U.S. Army websites were briefly defaced by suspected hacktivists, with altered error pages displaying pro-Kurdish messages and criticism of U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to CyberScoop, the affected websites belonged to the U.S. Army’s Open Innovation Lab and AI Integration Center, which focus on testing and integrating artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. The modified messages appeared only on error pages that users would see when attempting to access non-existent web pages.
Security researcher Ronald Lovelace discovered the defacements, which were still visible on July 6. After being notified by CyberScoop, the U.S. Army removed the affected pages.
The Army has confirmed that the issue has been addressed and said it is investigating how the error pages were altered. Officials have not disclosed whether any systems or sensitive data were compromised during the incident.
At this time, there is no indication that the attackers gained access beyond the modified error pages. The investigation remains ongoing.
